Venezuela to build 19 Cancer Treatment Centers

Through an agreement with Argentina, Venezuela will build 19 cancer treatment centers of radiotherapy and nuclear medicine with high-technology equipments aimed at offering free assistance to cancer patients.

According to the National Oncology Program of the Venezuela’s Health and Social Protection Ministry, Claudia Morón, the new centers and the new areas for cancer treatment count on lineal accelerator units and high technology nuclear medicine.

Likewise, he explained that considering the cancer is the second cause of death in Venezuela, they have invested about $91 million.

Morón said that this investment includes the restructuring of the existing centers, equipments supply and the building of 15 new centers in 15 states.

Regarding the restructuring works he mentioned the following hospitals: Hospital Universitario de Maracaibo, estado Zulia; Hospital Luis Ortega of Porlamar, Nueva Esparta state; Hospital Central de San Cristóbal, Táchira state; Ramores Balsa, in Guárico state, and Hospital Central de Portuguesa; among others.

“With these works we will decentralize and relieve the congestion of our hospitals in Caracas. (…) Now patients do not have to travel to Caracas to be given high-quality medical care for free.”
