PRESS CONFERENCE/SPEAK OUT

To Assess th G192 U.N. Global Economic Crisis Meeting
And Announce plans for global protest at the Pittsburgh G20 Summit

This U.N. conference is representing all U.N. members to confront the global economic disaster, not just the G8 or G20 governments who are primarily responsible for it.  A G192 meeting was originally sabotaged by the G8.  We ask you to be in solidarity with the masses of people at home and around the world who daily are sinking deeper into unemployment, poverty and starvation.

The G20 will be meeting in Pittsburgh, Pa. Sept. 24th and 25th. The press conference will be announcing plans for a major demonstration. Simultaneous demonstrations will take place around the world.

“Jobs for All the World’s Unemployed”, and “Solidarity, Not Competition” will be a major theme, as well as all other social needs, not war. The I.L.O. counts global unemployment at 1.6 billion and in the U.S., 25 million are either unemployed or underemployed with no jobs in sight. Hundreds of unemployed workers at the Detroit People’s Summit have just vowed to make their demands known in Pittsburgh.

Participants will include:

  • Ramsey Clark, 2008 UN Human Rights Award recipient and former U.S. Attorney General
  • Representative of Miguel Descoto, Pres. of the UN General Assembly
  • Manolo de los Santos, San Romero Church
  • Brenda Stokely, Million Worker March
  • Larry Holmes, Bail Out the People Movement
  • Larry Hamm, Peoples Organization for Progress
  • Curtis Doebbler, Nord Sud XXI
  • Jana Silverman, Social Watch
  • Rev. Luis Barrios, San Romero Church
  • Teresa Guttierez, May 1 Coalition for Worker and Immigrant Rights
