of the Jews |
About the Series Title
Alan Hart’s passionate concerns about the dangers Zionism poses to regional and world peace is matched by his fear that it, Zionism, is also a threat to the best interests of Jews everywhere and the moral integrity of Judaism itself. Why is Zionism the real enemy of the Jews? In his introductory Appeal to the American People, Hart quotes the words of Yehoshafat Harkabi, Israel’s longest serving Director of Military Intelligence.
In his seminal book Israel's Fateful Hour, published in 1986, Harkabi wrote:
"Israel is the criterion according to which all Jews will tend to be judged. Israel as a Jewish state is an example of the Jewish character, which finds free and concentrated expression within it. Anti-Semitism has deep and historical roots. Nevertheless, any flaw in Israeli conduct, which initially is cited as anti-Israelism, is likely to be transformed into empirical proof of the validity of anti-Semitism. It would be a tragic irony if the Jewish state, which was intended to solve the problem of anti- Semitism, was to become a factor in the rise of anti- Semitism. Israelis must be aware that the price of their misconduct is paid not only by them but also Jews throughout the world."
This is the second volume in the series, Zionism: The Real Enemy of the Jews, the inside, true story, monumental and moving, of Zionism’s colonial enterprise and the conflict it provoked in and over Palestine that became Israel; a conflict which shows no sign of ending and contains, some fear, the seeds of a doomsday catastrophe for the region and possibly the whole world.
David Becomes Goliath reveals in well-documented detail, starting in 1948, why Zionism’s assertion that Israel has lived in constant danger of annihilation, the “driving into the sea” of its Jews, is propaganda nonsense. The revealed truth is that after Israel unilaterally declared itself to be in existence, the Arab armies did not have the ability - neither the numbers nor the weapons - to defeat Israel’s forces. Despite some stupid Arab rhetoric to the contrary - a propaganda gift which is still a trump card in Zionism’s hands - the Arab regimes had no intention of even trying to destroy the Israel of the vitiated partition plan. After Israel’s victory on the battlefield, the Arab regimes were at one with Zionism and the major powers in wanting the Palestine file to remain closed. There was not supposed to have been a regeneration of Palestinian nationalism. Yasser Arafat’s real crime was making it happen.
Here, too, is the riveting story of how Zionism, assisted by deluded British Prime Minister Eden and America’s hawks, conned the Western world into believing that Eygpt’s President Nasser was an enemy of the West when, actually, he was seeking an accommodation with Israel from almost his first days in power, and wanted more than anything else a relationship with America on equal terms with that of Israel. We are also taken inside the struggle of the first and last American president, Eisenhower, to contain Zionism, and President Kennedy’s unsuccessful attempt to prevent the Zionist state acquiring an atom bomb (an acquisition still not admitted by either the US or Israel to this day).
But most importantly, Volume II records a major turning point - the defeat of reason in Israel. It happened when Ben-Gurion destroyed Moshe Sharett, Israel’s first foreign minister (and briefly its second prime minister). Sharett believed that what gentiles thought mattered, Ben-Gurion did not. In his diary, the crushed Sharret expressed this prescient fear for the future if Zionism’s hawks continued to have their way: “What is our vision on this earth - war to the end of generations and life by the sword?”
COMMENTARY/REVIEWS
“In this extraordinary book, Alan Hart has succeeded in elucidating for us the immediate and long term dangers involved in the unconditional Western support for Zionism and its oppressive policies against the Palestinians. The author provides us with a chilling exposure
of how this embrace developed and continues to endanger the Jewish existence and fuels the anti-Semitism that refuses to disappear. Motivated by a genuine concern for peace in Israel and Palestine and beyond in the world at large, Alan Hart has written not only a strong
indictment of Zionism, based on both research and personal experience, but also provided us with a charter for a better future.”
Ilan Pappe, Leading Israeli revisionist historican, author of The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine
"I hope that all who are concerned about the troubles of the Middle East will read this book. It is immensely readable and a magnificent piece of work which reflects Alan Hart’s close relationship with Israeli and Palestinian leaders. We are in terrible trouble in the Middle East.
The book explains how we got here and how we could move forward. The tragedy is hurting Palestinians, Israelis and the rest of the world. All who wish to engage in finding a way forward will be helped by reading this book."
Clare Short, MP-UK and International Development Secretary in Tony Blair's government until her resignation over Iraq
"As a principled and historical review it is excellent, of great importance I think in terms of content, and the series when finished may even be considered heroic in effort and scope."
Mark Bruzonsky, MiddleEast.org, founder; World Jewish Congress, first Washington Representative
"Hart’s readable account of history, his obviously erudite analysis and his ability in bringing the factual conflict to life on the page ensures the reader's interest is unwavering throughout. His passion and empathy with both sides is apparent. For the Jews, the ‘unspeakable fear’ of
another Holocaust due to Zionist manipulation and tyranny; and for the Arabs and Muslims, the anger and humiliation they are feeling every day that Palestine is being torn apart."
Samira Quraishy, researcher, Islamic Human Rights Commission
"Alan Hart in his chillingly revealing and very readable account of the intrigues of the Zionist political development has made a tremendously valuable contribution ."

THE AUTHOR
Alan Hart is a former ITN and BBC Panorama correspondent with a vast first-hand knowledge of the subject. Over more than three decades he enjoyed intimate access to many leaders on both sides of the conflict including Golda Meir, Moshe Dayan, Yasser Arafat and other PLO leaders, King Feisal, President Nasser and King Hussein (the list is long). He also participated at a leadership level in the secret politics of the search for peace in the Middle East (as an intermediary between Arafat and Peres when it was presumed that Peres was headed for leadership). His first book Arafat, Terrorist or Peacemaker? was published in 1984 and subsequently in several updated editions over a decade. In the early 1970s, his independent production company produced the first ever and to date only documentary on the true dimensions of global poverty and its implications for all. The film, Five Minutes To Midnight, had its world premiere at the opening of the 7th Special Session of the UN General Assembly (called to discuss the need for a New World Economic Order); was shown on television in many Western countries; was versioned for schools and became a standard work of reference. For that effort Alan was credited with having played a leading role in getting the North-South issue on to the agenda for public debate. He hopes this book will assist the process of informed and honest debate about who must do what and why for justice for the Palestinians and peace for all.
