Within the Bush regime, Petraeus was the US general who pushed for the "surge" against the people of Iraq and later promoted by Obama to head the US Central Command for escalating the war in Afghanistan. At the time of the Bush-Petraeus meeting pictured above, Petraeus was told that "he 'must succeed' in Afghanistan" and ... that he must,
"... 'knit together' Afghanistan's confused command structure if the coalition is to avoid a humiliating defeat, a senior American defence official has said."
Even then, it should have been obvious to all that the masters of Global Corporate Empire have no problem with a "humiliating defeat" nor of sacrificing lives of Afghans and U.S. soldiers to continue with their agenda for globalization.

In June, 2010 when Obama called for an Afghanistan exit strategy with no 'wiggle room' and a July 2011 troop withdrawal, Petraeus essentially over-ruled the "commander in chief," indicating that establishing a firm date for US troop withdrawal was not possible.
Three parties got what they wanted in this scenario.
-
Obama crediting himself for wanting to withdraw troops to appease the fools who still portray him as a president who with his hands tied is doing the best he can. Moreover, his solemn 2008 election campaign promise to withdraw US troops from Iraq immediately upon becoming president, was long forgotten by the mindless US "liberals" in 2010.
-
Petraeus received his promotion and place in history. Rather, his place in infamy as he bravely continues the killing of more Afghan civilians and sending more US soldiers to death and injury in a war already lost at the time of his promotion.
-
The militarized Global Corporate Empire achieves its mission to continue the long war against "terrorism" and march toward a globalized economy, intent on crushing any sovereign nation who gets in the way.

US General Petraeus Warns Against Excessive U.S. Defense Cuts
Radio Free Europe
August 31, 2011
General David Petraeus has warned against sacrificing U.S. military capabilities to ease America's budget troubles, as he retired from the army ahead of becoming CIA director.
"As our nation contemplates difficult budget decisions, I know that our leaders will remember that our people, our men and women in uniform, are our military, and that taking care of them and their families must be our paramount objective," Petraeus said.
"Beyond that, it will be imperative to maintain a force that not only capitalizes on the extraordinary experience and expertise in our ranks today, but also maintains the versatility and flexibility that have been developed over the past decade in particular."
Petraeus rose through the ranks to become arguably the U.S. military's brightest star, credited for helping to turn around the Iraq war and for helping to halt the momentum of Taliban militants in Afghanistan.
He led U.S. troops in both conflicts and briefly oversaw the entire the region as head of the U.S. military's Central Command.
