By Press – Venezuelan Embassy to the U.S.
MINCI
Wednesday, Apr 11, 2012

Editor's Comment: Just as everyone of age in the US can remember exactly where they were on the day JFK was assassinated and on the day the WTC towers were demolished & Pentagon struck - every Venezuelan remembers the details of their lives on April 11, 2002. But the right-wing coup that overthrew the government in Venezuela and kidnapped President Chavez has had a much happier ending than events on November 22, 1963 and September 11, 2001. Today, April 11 is the 10th Anniversary of the failed coup d'état against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and 47 hours later, April 13 marks the day that the people themselves went to the streets, defeated the tyrants and brought President Chavez back from prison to Miraflores, the Presidential Palace.

Venezuelan Embassy Celebrates the 10th Anniversary
of the Popular Restoration of Democracy

This week, the Bolivarian government and its diplomatic missions abroad will host a series of activities to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the popular restoration of democracy when the Venezuelan people rescued President Hugo Chávez from a coup d’état orchestrated by the right-wing opposition backed by private media outlets and sectors of imperialist foreign powers. During this assault on democracy, the Venezuelan president was kidnapped and all branches of government dissolved for only few hours due to the fact that Venezuelans took the streets to demand the restitution of the democratically elected president, Hugo Chávez. Likewise, patriotic military officers rescued the head of state and brought him back to the presidential palace.

Director Ángel Palacios is described as a “staunch supporter of President Hugo Chávez who is nevertheless frequently critical of stances taken by the government.”

The film (2004, 105 min.) will be screened in English. Please note that it contains images of violence and is therefore not suitable for children.
