Burning motorcycle of a member of the Bolivarian National Guard

Snipers murdered a member of the National Guard (GNB) and a citizen this morning as the men were clearing a street barricade set up by the opposition.

Despite all the support in the corporate media for the “student demonstrations” in Venezuela the protests have turned from any semblance of being peaceful to violating constitutional and civil rights of the population be denying citizens free access and movement in parts of mainly Eastern Caracas.

To escalate the situation even more a National Guardsman (GNB) and a young motorcyclist were assassinated this morning in the middle class area of Los Ruices – where the state TV (VTV) has been under siege for almost two weeks – by sniper fire as they tried to clear one of the “barricades for liberty” set up by local fascists.

Both were shot dead with bullets to the head while trying to clean up road-blocking barricades. Right after the incident an opposition – let’s be honest fascist - mob appeared and burned the GNB’s motorcycle where it lay.

This double assassination was confirmed by the President of the National Assembly, Diosdado Cabello, who also confirmed that the number of dead since the riots started on February 12th had now risen to 20 with 72 in custody awaiting trial.

The GNB was dead on arrival at the Metropolitan Clinic according the GNB Commander Manuel Furelos. Meanwhile the GNB were swarming all over Los Ruices trying to track down the sniper and the opposition activists on Twitter were posting messages about the GNB violating human rights and invading private property.

President Maduro announced at 4 p.m. that investigating authorities have already identified the apartment from which the fatal shots were fired.

In the last two weeks the opposition continues to repeat in Goebbelian style that the violence has been caused by the so-called chavista collectives that are said to be armed but no evidence is ever provided to prove this. It is another case of “trial by the social and corporate media”.

This is a media war aimed and molding international public opinion against the Maduro government.

Not the first time

Last week another GNB was shot in the eye in Valencia by a sniper in the middle class urbanization of El Trigal. The circumstances were the same as the GNB was a sitting duck for a sniper while he cleared a barricade.
Nevertheless, Diosdado Cabello also informed the media that the Valencia sniper had been identified and was now facing 30 years in jail for premeditated murder.

Cabello was confident that the assassin of the two people who were murdered today would be captured.

This is not the first time that this modus operandi has been used by the opposition. During the April 11th 2202 coup d’état 19 people were killed by snipers in the west of Caracas. An opposition march was unwittingly directed to the killing ground after being deceived that they would be able to oust President Chávez by marching to Miraflores Palace. Both opposition and chavista supporters died that day.

Today’s assassinations were a trap. Leave barricades and if you try to clear them then our paid assassins will shoot you down. This is the same format as the 2002 coup d’état and both chavistas and opposition demonstrators – whether they are paid or not – could be victims of snipers posted on buildings as the opposition needs dead people to justify a coup or intervention from abroad.

No doubt the private and corporate media will try to pin these murders on the government as they did the “massacre of Caracas” back in 2002 which led to Chavez’s short term ouster.

There is little doubt that the disturbances of the last two weeks have been orchestrated to lead to a coup by either forcing President Maduro to resign or by creating chaos and conditions for international intervention.

The ally and right wing lackey of the US, President Ricardo Martinelli of Panama, has tried to call a conference at the OAS to debate the violence in Venezuela. According to President Maduro, Matinelli is encouraging the US to intervene militarily in Venezuela. This resulted in President Maduro severing political, diplomatic and commercial relations with Panama with immediate effect.

We await further developments from a tense Eastern Caracas. Readers should note that the opposition authorities responsible for citizen safety in the Municpality of Sucre and the State of Miranda - Carlos Ocariz and Capriles Radonsky - have not even mentioned or condemned these assassinations.

Radonsky has not even answered his phone and is rumored to be in Manhattan where he owns a posh condominium. This deafening silence makes us think that the opposition is both condoniing and is complicit in these assassinations.
