Music: Million Roses (Миллион алых роз)
Composed: Raimonds Pauls
Words: Andrej Voznesenskij
Performed: Alla Pugacheva
"Million Roses" is originally from a Latvian song "Dāvāja Māriņa" composed by Raimonds Pauls with lyrics by Leons Briedis.
"Dāvāja Māriņa" is one of Pauls's most popular songs and has been covered by several artists and in several languages, including the famous Russian singer Alla Pugacheva with Russian lyrics by Andrej Voznesenskij as "Миллион алых роз”.
Regardless of who wrote, or who has performed this song, Pugacheva made it hers.
The Russian lyric differs from the original Latvian. Voznesenskij’s lyrics are based on a true love story about a famous Georgian painter, Niko Pirosmani, from Tbilisi. Pirosmani fell in love with a French actress, Margarita, who loved flowers. Pirosmani loved her so much that he finally sold his house and paintings and bought her one million roses. But Margarita rejected him and he lived lonely, and in poverty, with just a million roses in his memory.

Once upon a time there was a painter
He had a house and paintings
He fell in love with an actress
who loved flowers
He then sold his house
And his paintings and shelter
With all the money he bought
A whole sea of flowers
Million, million, million of red roses
From your window, from your window, from your window you can see
Who is in love, who is in love, and seriously in love with you
Turn his life into million flowers for you
Million, million, million of red roses
From your window, from your window, from your window you can see
Who is in love, who is in love, and seriously in love with you
Turn his life into million flowers for you
In the morning you stand at the window
Maybe you've lost your mind
As in a continuation of a dream
The front yard is full of flowers
Your soul trembles
What miraculous rich man have done
Under the window, however, just breathing
The poor artist stands
Million, million, million of red roses
From your window, from your window, from your window you can see
Who is in love, who is in love, and seriously in love with you
Turn his life into million flowers for you
Million, million, million of red roses
From your window, from your window, from your window you can see
Who is in love, who is in love, and seriously in love with you
Turn his life into million flowers for you
The meeting was short
In the night she left on a train
But since then she always recalled
The mad song of million roses.
While the painter still lived alone
And endured many hardships and pains
But his life was continuously with
A whole sea of colorful roses.
