I know when I'm overtired, or depressed, or contemplating ending it all - that's when I find myself actually reading horseshit like the article below. Who gives a rat's ass about the content of this piece, or what this author thinks about American cities? Or thinks about anything else, for that matter?

So in a bit of self-indulgent reverie, I decided to share this article with all of you in case you're in the mood for a little US travel adventure (the kind that doesn't involve invading some foreign country).

According to this dude, the 10 friendliest cities in America are mostly in the South. So long as you’re not gay, a minority, anti-war, pro-marijuana legislation, an atheist, or even marginally sane when it comes to gun rights, then head on down. Wallow when you get there.

One of the things I looked forward to most growing up was my family’s annual trek down to Charleston, South Carolina.

We’d visit for family, but over the years it became clear to me that this historic, culture-packed city was a place I could never get enough of.

Charleston is beautiful. The people, the food, the architecture, the beaches – you name it, it’s all great. Of all the cities I’ve visited in the U.S., Charleston is my undisputed favorite.

With that in mind, it comes as no surprise that Charleston was recently ranked the friendliest city in America in a new survey by the infamous "Condé Nast Traveler." Charleston took the top spot in last year’s survey as well.

The widely-read travel magazine reached out to 80,000 readers for this year’s survey. In addition to confirming that Charleston is a great place, the survey speaks to the pleasant reality of southern hospitality. Eight of the ten friendliest cities in America reside down south.

Here, according to the "Condé Nast" survey, are the ten friendliest cities in the states:

1. Charleston, South Carolina

2. Savannah, Georgia

3. San Antonio, Texas

4. Telluride, Colorado

5. New Orleans, Louisiana

6. Fort Worth, Texas

7. Jackson Hole, Wyoming

8. Key West, Florida

9. Nashville, Tennessee

10. Asheville, North Carolina

Now let’s flip to the other side of spectrum and check out the least friendly cities in the country. Newark, New Jersey owns this undesirable title for the second consecutive year, which is probably the least surprising thing you’ll read all day.
