The G20 Summit, which will be held in Australia, will include the presence of Russia despite efforts to exclude the country, as media reported in previous months. The announcement was given during a meeting of the group's finance ministers on Saturday, ahead of the summit.

Several countries had demonstrated their opposition over Russia's attendance on the grounds of alleged Russian support to Ukrainian rebels. Host President Tony Abbott had threatened to exclude Russia.

"Let's not minimize the affront to international stability and the affront to the ordinary norms of behavior between nations which Russia's been responsible for,” Abbot said in June.

But Russia will participate in the G20 meeting after its members overwhelmingly voted for the participation of the country.

“We’ve consulted with a number of countries and the emphatic view came back that of course we expect Russia to attend the G20,” said Joe Hockey, Australian treasurer.

Earlier in September, an EU document was leaked to the press, detailing Western plans to boycott Moscow from high-level international events.

“Besides economic measures, thought could also be given to taking coordinated action within the G7 and beyond to recommend suspension of Russian participation in high-profile international cultural, economic or sports events (Formula 1 races, UEFA football competitions, 2018 World Cup, etc.)” read the document.

The G20 Summit will take place the 15th and 16th of November in Brisbane, Australia.
