The Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergei Lavrov, called on the United States to reset, again, relations between Moscow and Washington, on Sunday.

Tension between Russia and United States has been increasing over the last few months after Moscow annexed the Crimea peninsula from Ukraine.

Washington and the European Union have imposed several sanctions on the Russian economy and numerous top level officials have claimed that Moscow is behind the rebel groups who are fighting against Kiev forces in eastern Ukraine.

However, Russia has rejected such accusations and asserts that the Russian soldiers captured in Ukrainian territory are volunteers on holidays.

Lavrov was interviewed by Russian media and while he called for a normalization of relations between the two nations, he also asserted that the United States was the one who wrecked their relations.

“Now there's a need for what the Americans might call a 'reset',” Mr. Lavrov told Russia's Channel Five, according to the BBC.

“The current U.S. administration is today wrecking much of the co-operation structures that it created itself along with us. Most likely, something more will come up - a reset No 2 or a reset 2.0,” he added.

Lavrov was referring to the efforts to normalise U.S. and Russian relations prompted by President Barack Obama on 2010, when he used the word "reset" during a visit by Russian prime minister Dmitry Medvedev to describe an attempt to mend ties between both nations.
