i look forward to the day when the word “trending” stops trending,
when “Isis” becomes again a reference to an Egyptian goddess
(though she was, among other identities:
“a principal deity in all rites connected with the dead”1),
when “planned obsolescence” is no longer the corporate-state policy
for how to treat Mother Earth and her Rainbow Peeps,
the phrase “vegging out” refers to respect for the relaxed
and inherent intelligence of vegetables
that know how to grow
and fulfill their original instructions
by being themselves & serving others,
when the concept of “free speech” is replaced
with simply allowing people to speech, er, speak,
and then allowing others to speak in response
(and then if necessary: lather, rinse and repeat),
when you web-search “twilight” a picture of the evening sky appears
instead of umpteen references to the vampire series,
when “world peace” becomes a verb and not an abstract noun,
time is measured by the cycle of Sun and Stars
and by measuring how you handled something in the past
compared with how you handle it now
but not by money,
the fine print becomes legible,
the way words and names are butchered, twisted
and deliberately forgotten
so as to sway the masses with legalese amnesia
becomes a thing of the past,
.99 is no longer used to price items
to trick you into thinking it costs less
(a penny for your thoughts),
instead of buy one get one free
i could just buy two at the same price
and not have to waste time figuring out if it’s a good deal
(but what if i didn’t need two to begin with
or want to give one away?),
when 24-7 news channels’ and commercials’ screens go dark
because actions speak louder than words.
