Rouhani to world: Rise up against recruitment of terrorists

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has suggested that in addition to a need for “serious fight” against terrorism and extremism, the world should also rise up against the ways terrorist groups recruit members.

He made the remarks in his speech at the African-Asian Summit in Jakarta on Wednesday. He said that spread of terrorism should be prevented through cutting financial, political and intelligence help to terrorists.

“As long as some governments follow the approach of good terrorism and bad terrorism, the international movement of terrorism does not receive a decisive global message in fight against this crime and will continue to live with other names and with support of another government,” Rouhani stated.

He said that it is the time to present an “operational plan” to take action toward “a world against violence and extremism” to root out extremism and terrorism through adopting a “wise approach”.

Rouhani highlighted the importance of “respecting human’s life” as a “fundamental concept” in campaign against terrorism.

He went on to say that “human values” of all people be it Muslim, Christian, Jew, Buddhist, African, Asian or European should be viewed equally.

The Iranian president also stated that “an expansive global movement” should be initiated by the countries’ religious and cultural leaders to counter against religious justification of massacring people.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Rouhani stated that foreign intervention is not a “good strategy” to settle crises and result in exacerbating the situation.

Long lasting peace depends on stopping military interventions and creating a situation for dialogue among various political groups, he added.

Rouhani also stated that the Iranian people’s resilience and rapid technological progress brought the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) to the negotiating table.

He also described sanctions against Iran as “cruel” and “illegal”. The six major powers got aware of the fact that “threat, humiliation and sanction” do not create peace and security and turned to negotiation with Iran, he explained.

He went on to say that the nuclear talks are based on “constructive interaction” that can lead to a final nuclear deal.

A final agreement should guarantee the removal of sanctions and Iran’s right to peaceful use of nuclear technology, Rouhani stated.

Rouhani also said that Iran seeks “constructive interaction” with the world.
