The Israel Defense Forces attacked the southern Gaza Strip targeting four facilities, Israeli military officials reported according to Haaretz. No injuries have been reported so far.

A rocket fired from the Israeli-besieged Gaza Strip earlier Tuesday is to blame for the airstrikes, a statement from the Israeli military claims.

The attack ends a four-week cease-fire between Israel and Hamas, the Palestinian political party that governs the Gaza Strip.

The rocket launched from Gaza earlier Tuesday exploded in an open area near the Israeli city of Ashdod without any reported damage. The Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, confirmed they had fired the rocket, but claimed it was an experimental launch, Al Jazeera reported.
