US resolution to “expel” Venezuela from OAS defeated ... again! Printer friendly page Print This

The Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Jorge Arreaza, condemned on Tuesday the illegal resolution adopted during the session of the Organization of American States (OAS).

"Venezuela rejects absolutely the decisions taken today by 19 member countries and we guarantee that we will continue with our people to overcome the difficulties confronting us. Venezuelans are going to solve their problems without foreign interference or intervention. Venezuela is free and sovereign", affirmed Arreaza.

During the meeting of the OAS, Arreaza said that Venezuela withdrew voluntarily from the Organization in April 2017 since it does not help the peoples of America, "as demonstrated today, and what it does is to create conditions for intervention and interference violating international law”.

"Why do the US and the Lima Group fail? Because despite threats they did not get the necessary votes (2/3 majority or 24 votes are needed to support the application of the Democratic Charter, for example) to implement the OAS Democratic Charter or the expulsion of Venezuela that had already announced its intention to leave the OAS and is in its second and final year after giving notice. In fact, there was one vote less this time round in another failed attempt to impose the Democratic Charter,” wrote Venezuelan Vice-President, Tareck El Aissami.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Communications & Information, Jorge Rodríguez, noted: "Victory for Venezuela: they have two years with the same 19 votes. And even with all the all the pressure, [US Vice-President] Pence did not manage to violate American dignity".

Signs of this second diplomatic defeat of the US and the Lima Group were all too apparent in social media and private radio stations the day after since it was also a defeat for the media war. Comments focused on Foreign Minister Arreaza “insulting” the other foreign ministers present at the OAS General Assembly when, in fact, if you listen to his interventions, he did little more than tell the truth.

He even produced documents from the US State Department confirming that the aim of the US was to destroy the Venezuelan economy, create a humanitarian crisis with the aim of ousting the Bolivarian government and President Maduro.

Nothing has changed since the Monroe Doctrine of 1823.
