I am Nicolás Maduro, constitutional president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, and I want to send a message to the American people to alert them to the media, communication and psychological warfare campaign that is developing in the international media and, above all, in the US media against Venezuela. A campaign has been prepared to justify a coup in Venezuela, prepared, financed and actively supported by the Trump administration, as is already known to the public.

A brutal campaign of false images, of mounted and rigged images has been put forward: don’t believe everything the US media says, I tell you with all my heart. Since they cannot invent that we possess weapons of mass destruction to invade us, now they invent every day some images, some news to justify an intervention in Venezuela, as a pact against our country.

I appeal to your conscience, to solidarity, to the awakening of truth: let us avoid a new Vietnam in Latin America. If the United States wants to invade us, they will find a Vietnam worse than they ever imagined.

Let us avoid violence, let us be a people of peace, proud of our history and of Simón Bolívar and Hugo Chavez, let us be a people who have a strong democracy, a people who are dealing with the problems that arise every day as in any society, a people who deserve respect. In our country there are the largest certified reserves of oil in the world and also the eyes of those who manage the U.S. Empire. They want to get their hands on our oil as they did in Iraq and Libya: the oil belongs to us. We are certifying the first gold reserve in the world, the fourth largest gas reserve in the world: we are a country of great energy resources, of great natural resources. It is the pure truth about the reason for the incessant attack on Venezuela.

I therefore appeal to the awakening of conscience, to solidarity in the United States, not to allow President Donald Trump and the group of extremists around him, John Bolton, Mike Pompeo, CIA and Mike Pence, not to allow this group of extremists to impose their lies against Venezuela, not to allow the coup d’état they support and I ask you to support the Venezuelan people in their fight for democracy.

I expect a great deal from you, as citizens of the United States: here in Venezuela you have a brother.

I am an admirer of US history and I know a lot about it. I have personally driven through the streets of Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, New York and Washington; I know the United States deeply and from the bottom up and I want to have relations of respect, and close cooperation with the United States.

The USA is much bigger than Donald Trump, much bigger.
I want to have good relations and solve our problems. Let us use the path of diplomacy, of peace: I demand respect for Venezuela and I ask the support of the people of the United States to avoid a new Vietnam and especially here in Latin America.

I ask for peace and respect, I am sure that we will follow this historic path, because we are on the right path in history, because we are on the right side in history.
