LIKE A LOVE LETTER
By Leigh Saavedra

LIKE A LOVE LETTER

Like a love letter
from a better day,
a cheating partner,
sending fleeting metaphors for passion,
run off in duplicate
as he scours the internet
to prey on the lonely,
the Press -- oh, that lofty word --
the Press assures me
all is well,
young soldiers doing all they can
to stay the loss of life.

In a ditch halfway around the world,
a bareboned dog is eating
a dark-skinned child's severed leg,
and the Press -- oh, that lofty word --
the Press preserves no limb in photos,
lists no names,
writes another love letter,
scours the audience
for Trust,
the waver of tattered flags.

Somewhere a mole posts in triplicate:
God bless...
