ALBA Countries Achieve Progresses in Agro-food Companies

| MINCI - The five member countries of the Bolivarian Alternative for the People of the Americas (ALBA) achieved important goals in several fields, including agro-food, during the II Meeting of Technical Commissions, held in Caracas.
The proposal to create a multinational agro-food company made by the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and discussed in the Food Workshop is based on the principles of equity, complementarily and humanism.
The Venezuelan proposal to create an Agro-food Multinational Company of the ALBA was welcomed, establishing a 45-days period to present criteria of each member county.
During the workshop there were also identified complementarities, strengths, and vulnerabilities among the ALBA member counties –Bolivia Cuba, Nicaragua, Dominica and Venezuela.
Interchange of Products Identified
Considering the necessity of having a fair and complementary trade, it was also discussed the proposals made by Venezuela regarding the Exporting and Importing Multinational Company, as well as a storage and trade network of the ALBA member countries.
Regarding this matter, it was established all ALBA member will have a deadline until next June 1st to give a list of the most important products to develop this network.
The Minister of Popular Power for Light Industries and Trade, and ALBA permanent coordinator for Venezuela, Rodolfo Sanz, said important progresses were achieved during the II ALBA Meeting of Technical Commissions and the High Level Workshop, held last April 6, in Caracas.
“There are projects that have a level of development; they are ready to sign constitutive statements of energy, telecommunication, and medicine companies. Furthermore, we have included plumbing, drinking water, and transportation companies because those are important fields for our countries, besides agro-food,” he said.
The Venezuelan Minister said it was established a balanced criterion to guarantee the companies will be sustainable in time and will have a high social impact.
Mr. Sanz commented all projects will be in charge of the Bank of ALBA, and institutions that will start operating by the end of the month, to assign the needed resources to develop projects.
Dominica Participated First Time
During the II ALBA Meeting of Technical Commissions participated 156 delegates of the member countries, including 11 vice-ministers, who were distributed in 13 work tables.
Dominica participated for this first time in this meeting.
Telecommunications was another field that achieved important progresses. The draft clauses statutes of the multinational company based on the VI ALBA Summit were checked.
Regarding the energetic area, the projects of constituent statement and social statutes were discussed. It was agreed the Energy Multinational Company will be a public limited company in Caracas, with 40 years long.
The objective of the company will be aimed to develop activities in all the chain of value of liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons, electric and alternative energy.
This technical meeting establishes that the company will promote a policy based on principles to achieve development of the countries.
Regarding projects financing, it was agreed to request 16 million dollars to start its carrying out this year.
