Axis of Logic Editorial: With the results of the Pennsylvania vote reported below by the corporate media (CBS News), we begin commenting for the first time on the 2008 presidential elections in the United States. All the massive news and commentary and the rhetoric of the candidates themselves can be reduced to a few words. In terms of what really matters to the people inside the United States and the people around the world, there are no essential differences among these two men and this one woman who aspire to become the next president of the United States.
Informed people know that based upon their personal and political histories, each candidate has been selected and funded to continue the same system that has worked to deny other nations of their sovereignty, made war on other sovereign nations through the decades, advanced world hunger and poverty and wrought havoc on the earth's environment - all in the name of profit for transnational corporations under the system of capitalism. It's a very difficult thing for the people of the U.S. to accept - that their "sacred vote" - the only hope presented to them - means nothing.
Let's be clear, those U.S. citizens who have voted for any of these candidates in either political party have not voted for a person. Rather, they have voted for a system, for none of these candidates have denounced that system. On the contrary, they have for their entire political careers, been in lock-step with that system. They have only professed support or changes within the system of capitalism. The 2008 elections are only unique in the fact that the Democratic Party for the first time in history, is offering a female face and an African American face - both in full support of the system of capitalism.
John McCain presents to the voter the bully side of capitalism, openly supporting the policies of the Bush regime. Clinton and Obama present the soft side. But all three voted for more war on the people of Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine. None have clearly denounced the exploitation of the working class or crushing of organized labor. All three have received their funding from the corporations and supported them accordingly. None have truly represented the people. Their rhetorical claims while running for political office cannot erase their histories and cannot change who they are or what the represent. For these reasons, Axis of Logic does not endorse or support any one of these candidates or the political parties they represent. Axis of Logic views a vote for any of these candidates to be a vote for an economic system and a corrupt electoral process in which the people really have no vote at all. But the corporate media show would have us deeply engaged in - even excited about - this battle among the very wealthy, over the spoils of war.
