On the evening of Saturday, 24 May 2008, Friends of Lebanon will be hosting an event to commemorate Resistance and Liberation Day.  We would like to extend this invitation for you to join us on this special occasion. 
 
Although the day has its origins, of course, in the liberation of Southern Lebanon from a 22-year Israeli occupation, this event will move away from its historical significance to study the concept of resistance as an ongoing philosophy.  We would like to present resistance as the innate motivation of a thinking and actively engaged population to guard against oppression and to preserve a peaceful, dynamic community. 
 
This will be our second annual Resistance and Liberation Day Event.  It will take place 18:00—20:00 at the University of Westminster Old Cinema, 309 Regent Street, London W1B 2UW.  We will open the evening with a showing of A Summer Not to Forget, a short documentary film on the 2006 War.  Director/producer Carol Mansour will be present for the Question and Answer session. We are scheduling special speakers—local experts and high profile names from Lebanon—to offer unique perspectives on the significance of resistance to today’s world. We are proud to welcome Mr Abdul-Rahman Bisiri, Mayor of Saida, Lebanon, as special guest speaker.  Finally, the audience will be given the chance to discuss the issues with the panel.
