Axis of Logic

Paul Richard Harris

I have just returned home from hospital after three months as a patient, where I hoped to regain the ability to walk again after breaking my left leg. I found it a depressing experience, despite the wonderful kindness of the staff at the convalescent hospital (at all levels) where I spent exactly three months.

From this, I have drawn several conclusions, starting with day-time television, which is of extremely poor quality on the poor selection of five channels to which we had access.

Apart from that, and since I was effectively cut off from e-mails and the internet, I found the only way to blot out my miserable present circumstances was to read.

This led me to read books which otherwise I would never have thought of opening. They were lent to me by friends and family, brought by them or by my long-suffering wife (the hospital is about twenty-five miles from home) when she came on her steady visits.

As a result I have now read books which I can recommend others never to try, and found others of great interest. Unhappily, the former are more numerous than I could have imagined, and gave the lie to enthusiastic praise given by some reviewers.

I now return to normal life to find celebrations of al Naqba by the victorious oppressors and invaders in full swing, and deep mourning by all decent folk faced with the current return to Nazi methods by those who claim to be heirs of the victims of Hitler's vicious crimes.

We live in a sad world; but we must all hope and pray that Freedom, Equality and Brotherly Love, supported by Justice will one day come to save us all.
