Dear Mr Blair,

Almost a year ago, I wrote you the open letter of which I enclose a copy*, but I have to assume that it never reached you, since you have always been so well protected.   Everything that I then wrote most sadly appears to remain true.

However, since then you have gone further by agreeing to represent the infamous "Quartet" in trying to persuade the Palestinian people that they should accept a partition of their country based on principles even more severe than that called apartheid under the former South African régime, which principles have rightly been generally condemned by world opinion.

You must know that many of us consider you to be one of the most prominent criminals in the world, not only for your breaches of the Nuremberg Principles in going to war against the people of Iraq, and all the deaths and suffering thereby caused, but also for your continuing attempts to subjugate the Palestinians, who are asked, through you, to accept a second class status as human beings in a series of bantustans with limited rights in a small and tightly restricted part of their own country.

If you were genuine in your desire to help the people of the Holy Land, you would actively promote the establishment of a single democratic state, to which all the refugees and their descendants could return and where a person's religion or lack of it had no effect on his or her right to exercise all the normal duties of a citizen.   Instead of that you are proposing the perennisation of a discriminatory state built on principles advanced by Wilhelm Marr, Theodor Herzl, Adolf Hitler and others, which state should be replaced by a healthier, saner nation which would treat all its citizens equally regardless of their race or ethnic origin.

Being myself a Catholic Christian, I cannot understand how you dare to maintain the rightness of your actions if you have faith in a loving God who is forever willing to forgive each of us when we repent.

Yours sincerely,

Robert Thompson
