We who try to justify our membership of one of these, the principal monotheistic religions of our day, all refer to the Covenant between our one loving and merciful God (Deus in Latin, Theos in Greek or Allah in Arabic) and Abraham (of whom we are all the spiritual heirs).

However, each of our communities, with its human failings, has suffered badly from the cancer of deformed cells or groups within it. As a practising and committed Catholic Christian, it is appropriate when examining this problem that I should think first of the deformed groups who nevertheless claim to have been inspired by Jesus's teachings.

The founding charters of Christianity are the Ten Commandments and, as a further refinement of these, the Beatitudes. Many who wish to make personal political and financial gains within the supposedly Christian community have an unpleasant tendency towards, in the first place, pushing these aside; often they even go further by ignoring them completely, whenever this suits their ambitions.

A ghastly criminal example of this attitude, and of the misuse of supposed shining stars among those who claim to be teaching Christian values, led to the war against the people of Iraq and the subsequent occupation of their country. The people of Iraq, mainly Muslim, but with a significant small Christian minority, suffered terribly ever since the first Gulf War and even worse during the vicious sanctions coordinated by the USA under the Bush I, Clinton, and early Bush II régimes. These sanctions hit all the population, and the ethnic or religious situation of individuals made little difference to the extent of their suffering.

The recently-appointed President of the USA, Mr George W. Bush, after the dramatic events of 11th September 2001, when his country benefitted from the sympathy and support of the whole world, decided to make two announcements. He clumsily declared a Crusade against Islam, which he had chosen wildly and without the slightest justification as being the root source of the guilty actions. If the group still officially accused of this atrocity was indeed guilty, then it was inspired by the deformation or extreme modification of Islam. That is the same Islam which he and his father had always supported militarily and as a family, namely the Wahabis who rule Saudi Arabia, and the al-Qaeda tendency which had been nurtured and financed by the CIA.

His second declaration was that all who were not for his imperialist aims were necessarily against them. These two declarations increased respectively the hostility of the Muslim Ouma, and the distrust and further hostility from all those who, while they sympathised with all those who had lost their loved ones on 11th September, were (and in the case of people like myself, still are) viscerally opposed to the USA's imperialism and its irresponsible greedy desire to dominate the world. He could have had much more support from around the world if he had limited his punitive (mainly aerial) attack on Afghanistan to a genuine, well-organised search (on the ground) for the principal promoters of al-Qaeda, accused of having arranged the attacks inside the USA.

This is one of the most striking examples of the deviations of supposedly Christian practice, and it is in direct contradiction with traditional Christian teaching. It was, and still is, supported by powerful preachers, who live luxurious lives paid financed by their ill-informed and deliberately misled followers. It is the duty of genuine Christians to end this scandal, and to help their brothers and sisters back to traditional Christian beliefs.

The Muslim Ouma (the Community) has, since the early days of Islam, been split between Sunni and Shia tendencies, and, perhaps because of the lack of a recognised guiding body or leader, there exist within it many strands of thought and belief, some of which oppose the basic tenets expounded in the Qur'an, or in the Hadith. Some of these chose lines of conduct which gave great power to certain classes of the people over others, a notable example being the treatment of women as being inferior to men, when it appears clearly from the Qur'an that women are the equals of men in original Muslim doctrine. Such variants of Islam can only be considered to be aimed at giving greater power to the men who taught them and, in this example, at ensuring that women should remain subject to their rule. It was, in fact, a sign of the desire by unsure men to remain despots despite their uncertainty, or sense of inferiority.

Judaism managed for many centuries to avoid such splits and divisions, except that between Jews and Samaritans, since they found a common source of teaching in the Tanakh, composed of the Torah (the first five books of what we Christians call the Old Testament), the Neviim (the books of the prophets) and the Ketouvim (hagiographies). However, some three centuries before the birth of Jesus, there were written commentaries on the Torah, known as the Mishnah, and these developed a whole system of jurisprudence based on the Torah.

When tribes in the Caucasus, such as the Khazars, converted to Judaism, they developed the Mishnah into a much more controversial body of rules and laws, which we know today as the Talmud. This remained, until modern times, unknown to the Sephardic Jews who were descended from the much earlier spread of Jews around the Mediterranean and beyond, or who had remained in the ancient lands of Israel and Judah. The Talmud expanded the Torah as the ancient Jews had known it, and was the work of those whom we now know as the Ashkenazim, the descendants of the converted Caucasian tribes who had moved into Eastern and Central Europe. It was the Ashkenazim whose (often well deserved) worldly success inspired a jealous German, Wilhelm Marr, to invent the idea of a Jewish race which was, according to him, plotting to take over the nations of Europe. This idea was then taken up by one of these same Askenazim, the Hungarian journalist Theodor Herzl, and he enlarged it to help found the Zionist movement, which wished to remove from Palestine the indigenous population (mainly descended from the ancient twelves tribes of Israel, but converted either to Christianity or to Islam). He desired to replace them with Ashkenazim from Europe (who have no prior biological link with that land) and to found a "Jewish nation", not only on the lands which had once been the home of Judaism but also other parts of what the Romans had called Palestine.

This Zionist movement now rules over Palestine and parts of neighbouring lands, and continues its ethnic cleansing, by the ruthless use of brutal theft and murder, to clear out the indigenous people. This cancerous body has long tentacles, due to its links with fellow Ashkenazim who have done well financially in many countries around the world, particularly in the USA, and it has acquired great power over the highly corrupt political systems both in the USA and in other countries tributary to the USA. More traditional Orthodox Jews, such as those who have created Neturei Karta to combat Zionism, have as their aim to purify Judaism and the Jewish Community of this internal obnoxious infestation.

Unfortunately, this cancerous growth has managed to persuade many that it alone represents Judaism. Closer examination of their personal behaviour shows us that many of the leaders of Zionism, who claim a tribal link to the Jewish Community, have no intention whatsoever of following the precepts of Judaism. This explains why their legislative body, known as the Knesset, based its "laws" to define who could be accepted by them as "Jews" (the 'laws of the Aliyah') on the racist principle invented by Marr (the same principle previously adopted by, among others, Adolf Hitler), rather than on the traditional Rabbinic rules. Any attempt to tell the truth about these dishonest people is usually met with an accusation of anti-semitism, a term also invented by Marr, which has no connection whatsoever with semites, who are those who use a semitic language in their normal day to day communications with their fellows.

These cancerous growths in all our communities need to be brought to an end to enable each of the communities to grow healthily. It is the duty of every Jew, every Christian, and every Muslim to do what he or she can to cure our communities and to eradicate these insidious diseases.

By way of a footnote, I do not forget similar cancerous growths in other religions, which are much further away from my way of thought. In particular, the horrors now being committed in the name of Hinduism in the State of Orissa, in direct contradiction with the teachings of such men as Mohandas Gandhi (known as the Mahatma) or those which were, and are still,  being done in the name of Buddhism by cruel Japanese torturers during the Second World War, or by the Sinhalese to rule over other ethnic groups such as the Tamils in Sri Lanka.
