We ask them, "What about the millions of Venezuelans who would suffer if this were to happen?" Of course there is no mention of the common people by the bourgeois-run media. In their frenzied hope that Chávez will fall from power behind a financial collapse of PDVSA, they boosted the figure to US$36 billion!!??!! in their own disinformation campaign. In Venezuela where the oppostion still controls a large majority of the media (e.g. Globovision) and in the capitalist media worldwide, this is typical behavior.

The first victory is because Exxon and its media here (not only TV, but radio, press and digital media) has had the idea of playing Venezuelans off against each other in an effort to force them to decide between Chávez and themselves. Obviously they make allowances for the one percent of the population which lives in Venezuela, but cannot truly be called Venezuelans. The remainder of the country will be forced to close ranks with Chávez and the opposition media will be left with even more egg on their face.

The second victory will come after using the ridiculous figure of US$12 billion. When the Exxon-PDVSA case goes to international arbitration, the compensation figure payable could just be as much as US$1 billion and in this case Chávez will be victorious by having saved US$11 billion from Exxon. Chávez will once again be the winner since he will have "only had to pay a sum much less" than the US$12 billion being bandied about inaccurately in the media.
