Iran/Persia
It's a Slippery Slope to War

Dear Friends,

The summer issues of Windows on Iran have been slow in coming. I hope you are all enjoying a relaxed and summery mood.

My summery mood is seriously disturbed with the latest news on Iran. Back from a short trip to D.C., I just found the message below in my mailbox. It is from a dear friend Lana Cable in Albany, New York.  The least I can do to thank Lana is to share her message with you. She writes:

"Those who are trying to provoke a war with Iran keep at it, with the US House of Representatives now considering a resolution that could get the action started. The resolution would demand that the President impose a blockade on Iran - which Iran would almost certainly see as an act of war.  Some congressional sources say the House could vote on the resolution, H.Con.Res. 362, as early as next week.

I just asked my Representative to ensure this resolution is not approved. Can you join me?

Many thanks,
Lana Cable

Over the last four weeks 102 House Democrats and 117 Republicans have agreed to cosponsor a new resolution against Iran that demands that President Bush “initiate an international effort” to impose a land, sea, and air blockade on Iran to prevent it from importing gasoline and to inspect all cargo entering or leaving Iran.

Such a blockade imposed without United Nations authority (which the resolution does not call for) could be widely construed as an act of war.  Some congressional sources say the House could vote on the resolution, H.Con.Res. 362, very soon.

Please send a letter asking your Representative to oppose this dangerous path that could lead directly to war with Iran.
