By Mankh (Walter E. Harris III). Axis of Logic
Ed. note: Mankh's poem reminds me of an admonition from the I Ching:
"Hold fast to the lessons learned from nature."

Between You, Me, Crow and Lamppost
Summer decays with cloying sweetness — Autumn's
panoply of color and harvest suspended in midair.
Like weeds the people are rising through concrete
gathering, in spite of Empire's wooden street barricades.
In the parking lot
a crow atop a lamppost
cawing Earth wisdoms.
Bitter taste of Somalia on the breeze —
Sunday and we're just sitting,
in the backseat a bag of groceries.
Watching the clouds move fast across the blue sky
dizzy . . . he calls me back,
crow atop the lamppost cawing Earth wisdoms.
In the parking lot
like weeds the people are rising
through concrete.
False institutions crumbling
as insects go wild amidst a compost heap.
Such cloying sweetness
sitting here listening
caw caw caw caw caw |
