Gustavo Dudamel conducts the world-renowned
Simon Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela.

For several years now, Gustavo Dudamel and the young musicians of the Venezuelan youth orchestra Simon Bolívar have been causing a furor on the international music scene. More than anything else, it is they who have earned the Venezuelan orchestra system respect around the world: 30 years ago the conductor, composer and economist Jose Antonio Abreu had the vision of combining social work and classical music. Abreu's goal was to tear down elitist structures in music education and make music a fundamental right of all the country's children.

This is an excellent interpretation of the Huapango of Moncayo which the Symphony Orchestra of Netzahualcóyotl* performed with so much energy. But this splendid performance is by the Simon Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel. A Mexican commenting on YouTube notes that it is wonderful to see the British so moved by this Mexican music performed by Venezuelans. To get a taste of the gusto of a live performance, don't miss the second video below of their New Years Eve Concert in Caracas playing Mambo!

Gustavo Dudamel conducts the Venezuelan Youth Orchestra Simón Bolívar and the Venezuelan Brass Ensemble with Alexis Cárdenas & Ensemble in an even greater rousing finale of Mambo! This performance took place at the 2007 New Year's Eve Concert in Caracas ... music in action!

"Venezuela's Orquesta Sinfónica Infantil y Banda Sinfónica de Nezahualcóyotl ("Junior Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Band of Nezahualcóyotl") was created in 1998.
