William Blum is author of Killing Hope: US Military and CIA Interventions Since World War 2; Rogue State: A Guide to the World's Only Superpower; West-Bloc Dissident, A Cold War Memoir and Freeing the World to Death, Essays on the American Empire - and numerous analytical essays. Yesterday, writing Anti-Empire Report #114 Blum wrote the following:
There was no one in the entire universe that those who own and run “United States, Inc.” wanted to see dead more than Hugo Chávez. He was worse than Allende. Worse than Fidel Castro. Worse than any world leader not in the American (US) camp because he spoke out in the most forceful terms about US imperialism and its cruelty. Repeatedly. Constantly. Saying things that heads of state are not supposed to say. At the United Nations, on a shockingly personal level about George W. Bush. All over Latin America, as he organized the region into anti-US-Empire blocs. Long-term readers of this report know that I’m not much of a knee-reflex conspiracy theorist. But when someone like Chávez dies at the young age of 58 I have to wonder about the circumstances. Unremitting cancer, intractable respiratory infections, massive heart attack, one after the other … It is well known that during the Cold War, the CIA worked diligently to develop substances that could kill without leaving a trace. I would like to see the Venezuelan government pursue every avenue of investigation in having an autopsy performed ...
I personally believe that Hugo Chávez was murdered by the United States. If his illness and death were NOT induced, the CIA – which has attempted to assassinate more than 50 foreign leaders, many successfully3 – was not doing its job. I have been conducting my own research on this subject for nearly two years, since President Chávez was first diagnosed with cancer in June, 2011. Like William Blum, I also believe personally that he was murdered by induced cancer. Some of my research includes personal interviews with a scientist-professor who holds a Ph.D. in Bio-Chemistry from a leading US university and whose work had at times been passed on from another prominent US university to the CIA for use in biological warfare. William Blum's wish, "I would like to see the Venezuelan government pursue every avenue of investigation in having an autopsy performed," ... will be fulfilled. We can be certain that Chávez' excellent medical team in Cuba and Venezuela has taken complete tissue samples in autopsy. Arguably, there is no government on earth that knows the subject of CIA assassinations more than the Cubans. That's the reason Fidel Castro has survived more assassination attempts than any other world leader. We can be certain that the genesis of his cancer will be investigated in every way scientifically possible. If President Chávez was in fact murdered, his killers have failed in their mission with profundity because his "death" has propelled at warp-speed, the Bolivarian Revolution far into the future. If in fact, they killed him they may think that the story will pass into oblivion without a trace, without a final answer, just as the murders of John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King passed without any final conclusion. But if they assassinated President Chávez, they may be deprived of such a fantasy because JFK's and King's murders were in 1963 and 1968 respectively and this is 2013. Fifty years later forensics are far more advanced and much more is known about CIA/Mossad's policies and methods of "decapitation." If it becomes known that the enemy murdered President Chávez, they and their media will become even more entrenched by his death and again attempt their worn out depictions of "conspiracy theorists." But the people world over will know the Truth because the Truth is neither expressed nor understood solely in rationality and polemics. Rather, it is known and understood in the context of the whole - from the heart. I have not written about this before and do not write more than this now but I plan to do so in the future, after our emotional trauma from President Chávez' death diminishes. I write this much now, in this most sensitive time, only to respond to the capitalist media in the US and Europe in defense of interim President Nicolás Maduro. Their profuse vile attacks President Chávez' that began the moment he died frequently include repeated excerpts from Maduro's words on the day that Chávez' drew his last breath. Maduro stated that our Bolivarian leader may have died by poisoning. The capitalist media's abusive ridicule of Maduro's words attempt to portray him as a fool but their portrayal is dust in the wind for the many millions the world over who know what they are, what they are capable of doing morally and technically - and who Hugo Chávez Frias was in body continues to be today, more alive and powerful than ever. ¡Chávez vive, la lucha sigue!
