Poetry of Mankh
What Will It Take To End The War?

a fortress of lilies
a chain-link fence of roses
an army of ants
the endless spray from a waterfall

the word “war” removed from dictionaries
and removed from the minds of those who make it
so that when they habitually go to make
that ‘violent chaos’
they will stop in their tracks
and scratch their heads wondering
what they are doing

a hornet’s sting
the general who has slipped on a banana peel
a foot-soldier embracing a rock

a baby’s diaper flung
by a parent who suddenly realizes
that chimps are more intelligent
than warmongers

a pill that allows you to experience peace
with a warning that if it lasts
more than four hours
you don’t need to consult a doctor

a dictionary that comes alive when you read the words
“organize” “alliances” “co-ops”
“communal councils” “listening for the still small voice within”

a busted ATM machine
an empty box of tissues
Mother Earth crying out: “Not In My Back Yard!”
