A car carrying gas cylinders has driven into the underground car park of a Sydney police station, according to reports cited by ABC. One person has been taken into custody. Officers from Police Rescue and the Bomb Disposal Unit are currently examining the car, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

ABC cited police sources as saying the incident was an attempted terror attack.

A statement from police said that no members of the public or officers were injured in the operation.

Specialist officers wearing helmets and holding shields are at the scene, dog squad officers, and plainclothes police wearing bulletproof vests are patrolling the scene, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

Memorial Avenue, where the station is located, remains blocked off as a "precaution," police said.
