The new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll -- conducted among 1,999 registered voters Oct. 13 through Oct. 15 -- shows that Trump’s repeated warnings about a "rigged" election are having effect: 73 percent of Republicans think the election could be swiped from him.

I know what you're thinking: Most of that 73 percent aren't that stupid; they're just going along with the Republican nominee's stupidity, for that is what partisans stupidly do when queried by pollsters. They well know that Black Panther bogeymen needn't intimidate all-black, all-Democratic precincts, nor will wicked, white-Democratic election judges stuff ballot boxes or dispose of Republican ballots as dozens of onlookers look on.

But, such broad Republican willingness to endorse such a fiction — one that knowingly, malevolently seeks to corrode others' confidence in American democracy — is far worse than partisan flapdoodle. This is the very sort of Big Lie-endorsement that reveals the sick, inner malfunction of the neofascistic mind. It's eager to swallow and then regurgitate whatever witless poison the little military-school corporal cares to spew.

For the second time in mere hours, I find I must say it again: There simply is no bottom to the Republican cesspool's madness.
