Jose Luis Rivas Aranguren was shot eight times in Girardot. A candidate for the Venezuelan National Constituent Assembly was assassinated Monday amid escalating right-wing opposition violence. Aranguren was shot eight times in Girardot, a municipality of the state of Aragua. The culprit reportedly escaped through the crowds. The assassination comes as the opposition increases attacks against government supporters. Earlier today, several members of the Bolivarian National Guard were injured in a roadside explosion. In June, Orlando Jose Figuera died after being burned alive by opposition protesters who suspected that the 21-year-old Black man was a government supporter. In April, a Chavista trade unionist was kidnapped and murdered.
