cold air grabbing my hands
so i put on gloves
walking in winter
thinking in spring yet
looking for harbingers
unseen beneath snow
cold air grabbing my feet
so i keep walking in winter
feeling for spring
the past behind me
but when i turn around
suddenly the past is the future
and i've been there before
so i keep walking in winter yet
seeing the present
clouds sporting shades of sun-infused grey
road grimy with salt
and once pure white storm snow
speckled black
cold air grabbing my mind
so i keep singing
whatever song comes through,
whatever bird graces the air,
whatever verbal melodies
escape from my mouth or onto the page
cold air grabbing my hands
so i put on gloves
walking in winter
the pure white paper speckling black
walking in winter
feeling in spring
past and future
everywhere i turn
walking
in winter
