On August 13, the representatives of the government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the Unitary Opposition Platform and the Kingdom of Norway signed, in Mexico, a Memorandum of Understanding, the content of which was approved by the National Assembly, in its session of the 17 of August. The document establishes the work agenda that the parties will begin to develop in the first round of negotiations that will take place this Friday, September XNUMX.

The Memorandum is the result of a long process of dialogue, negotiation and agreement between the parties who, with the mediation of the Kingdom of Norway, seek to arrive at formulas of political, economic and social understanding under the protection of the Constitution. Additionally, this process is accompanied by various actors from the international community, who contribute to the achievement of the lofty purposes of the meeting.

The Electoral Power, through the National Electoral Council as its governing body, welcomes the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding and the beginning of negotiations, which seek to reach solutions to the political differences that exist within Venezuelan society. , within the framework of our legal system and the regular operation of our institutions. Essential values ​​of our republican life such as dialogue, political understanding, peace as a social good, diversity and pluralism signify these negotiations, which are also a way of exercising our sovereignty and our independence, by virtue of the fact that the The parties have resolved to freely agree on commitments for the good of the Republic.

The appointment last May of the National Electoral Council, by the National Assembly, already evidenced the willingness to reach a national agreement, which was expressed in the political actors that are part of the Special Commission for Dialogue, Peace and Reconciliation, within which the will to integrate this Public Power of the State was imposed, in strict compliance with the provisions of the Constitution.

The Electoral Power adds its voice to that of Venezuelans, who, from the sacrifice imposed by the coercive and unilateral measures and the political crisis, demand a constitutional, peaceful agreement with absolute respect for their self-determination, which allows the stabilization of the country and, therefore, the rescue of dignified living conditions to which they are entitled and for which this people has waged their emancipatory struggles.
