Japan is to improve access to water supplies in rural communities in
the West Bank, following the donation of 193,960 US dollars for two
projects on Tuesday.
Through the Grant Assistance for
Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), Japan will provide funding
for a cisterns project in Hebron and the rehabilitation of the main
Al-Badhan pipeline in Nablus, a statement read.
The grant will
also provide for the rehabilitation of the Al-Badhan main pipeline and
the installation of a pump, upgrading the reservoir room to ensure the
access of around 3,000 people living in Al-Badhan area to running tap
water.
The contracts were signed by Naofumi Hashimoto,
representative of Japan to the Palestinian Authority, the
representatives of Palestinian Hydrology Group, and Al-Badhan Village
Council.
The two projects have been approved in the framework of
the Cool Earth Partnership initiated by the Government of Japan, and
will contribute to the adaptation for climate change and to the
improvement of the life of the Palestinian people, the statement read.
“The
projects are clear indicators of Japan's determined support to the
Palestinian government and people's efforts for establishing a viable
independent state for Palestinians living side by side with Israel in
peace, security and prosperity, under which human security is ensured
for Palestinians,” the statement concluded.
