THE COURAGE TO SHOW CONTEMPT

"THIS IS A FAREWELL KISS, YOU DOG!!," Muntadar al-Zeidi yelled in Arabic as he leapt from his chair and threw his shoes at the George W. Bush, narrowly missing Bush's head. Bush was holding a "news conference" in Baghdad with Nouri al-Maliki, the puppet prime minister of the puppet government established by the invader/occupiers. He was in Baghdad for his "farewell visit" to Iraq. A more fitting "farewell" to Bush in Iraq can unfortunately, only be imagined. Bush was about 20 feet away as he ducked the shoes and Iraq's puppet guard dogs threw al-Zeidi to the floor. Later, it is reported that "a trail of fresh blood could be seen on the carpet".

Thousands of bodies of U.S. war victims laid out in Baghdad on May 28, 2003

Tonight, Axis of Logic salutes our brother, al-Zeidi, who is no doubt being tortured in a filthy Baghdad jail by Nouri al-Maliki puppet government cops. al-Zeidi did what millions of Iraqis and others around the world would like to do ... or more. Reports indicate that calls for the release of Muntadar al-Zeidi are flooding government offices and media newsrooms around the world. This man should be hailed as a hero and we also demand that he be unharmed and released, hoping that it is not too late. Muntadar al-Zeidi's shoe attack is significant for at least two reasons:

The first is that in Iraqi culture, throwing ones shoes at someone is a sign of ultimate contempt. When the statue of Saddam Hussein was torn down by U.S. Marines, a small group of Iraqis were paid by the U.S. government to deride Saddam and throw shoes at his statue. A few weeks ago, a much larger group assembled in the same square where they threw shoes at an effigy of George Bush. Not surprisingly, CNN makes degrading statements tonight about al-Zeidi and compliments George Bush for his "quick reflexes" and for how "amiably" he responded to the attack. That's CNN. That's the capitalist media.

Thousands of Iraqis protesting the US war and occupation
The second reason al-Zeidi's attack is significant is that al-Zeidi represents millions of others who have the same contempt for this miserable coward who for 8 years has been the face of the machine that has killed, injured and tortured millions of Iraqis, Afghans, Palestinians and others around the world. Join millions of others to demand the immediate release of Muntadar al-Zeidi who had the conscience and courage to do what every journalist should have done and should be doing when they are brought into the presence of George Walker Bush. How do you make such a demand? Use your imagination as al Zeidi did.

Read Cherifa Sirry's excellent commentary, which reveals how the capitalist press distorted the meaning of al-Zeidi's attack on George Bush:

This is not just a good-bye kiss from the Iraqi people! It’s a good-bye kiss from the Arab people!
