Late last week thousands of young people (Los Indignados or Indignant Ones) gathered in Plaza Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain, to protest against government policies which have caused more poverty, 20.4% unemployment - 43% youth unemployment for people under 25 years, cutting back or completely eliminating many social programs, freezing or cutting salaries, reducing budgets for education and health care. These policies are all in the name of making the public pay for the unmanageable debt caused by the capitalist banks, government debt and personal debt pushed by capitalist marketing and media leading to hyper-consumption of unneeded 'stuff' sold by corporations.
So what happens in democratic Spain when you stand up for your rights in the 21st century? What about human rights, democracy and freedom of expression in Spain today? No - the Spanish police in the video below are not Franco's stormtroopers in action. This is President José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero police in action. This is here and now! Is NATO going to bomb this police brutality "to save the civilians" as they claim they are doing in their ongoing all-out war in Libya?
José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, President of Spain
Shame on Zapatero!
and
Shame on the European Union!
Shame on the UN! Shame on NATO!
- For not condemning this brutal action against people who are exercising their democratic rights. And why did videos like this not make headline news on TVE - Spanish International Television? Why is this police brutality not being shown on the capitalist media throughout the world?
Please honor these youth by watching this video through to the end
27 de maig de 2011 - Els Mossos d'Esquadra i Guàrdia Urbana han desallotjat aquest matí el campament d'indignats de Plaça Catalunya. Video by J. Salvia.
