Secretary-General of Hezbollah Party, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, said that the Israeli aggression on Lebanon in 2006 was part of a greater scheme that aimed at destroying resistance and attacking Syria on the pretext of supporting the resistance, with its further goals being replacing the Syrian leadership with one that is affiliated to the U.S., ultimately leading to attacking Gaza Strip and eliminating the resistance there.

In a speech broadcast on Friday by al-Manar TV on the anniversary of the victory in 2006 war, Nasrallah said the legendary steadfastness of the resistance in 2006 forced the U.S. and Israel waive the majority of their terms and conditions to stop the aggression, adding that “the result was that the resistance and its weapons remained and got stronger. The war did not reach Syria, and the aggression on the Gaza Strip was postponed.”

He stressed that there is a new U.S. approach in the region that aims at destroying the region’s armies and create new entities and countries on their ruins, highlighting that the new approach aims at converting Israel from an enemy into a savior.

“The elements of the new approach are Israel and the takfiri movement represented by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria terrorist organization,” Nasrallah said, highlighting that the people of the region are capable of defeating the new scheme if they realize its dangers.

Nasrallah said that there are regional countries that are supporting and sponsoring the Islamic State, and that the U.S. has overlooked it since this phenomenon benefits its agenda for the region.

“The international community stood silent after the Islamic State committed massacres in al-Mosul, al-Anbar, Saladin, Diyala and Nineveh, but when it reached Erbil, the international community interfered because the Islamic State had exceeded the allowed limits and threatened their economic interests in Kurdistan. That is why the people of the region should not rely on the U.S., the international community, or the Arab League for protection,” Nasrallah said.

He asserted that the takfiri mentality has no future in the region, and that the Islamic State can be defeated with ease if the people of Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon stand together to face this threat.
