Britain's Secret Wars: How and why
the United Kingdom sponsors conflict around the World – by T.J. Coles
Published in Great Britain by

The Plymouth Institute for Peace
Research (PIPR) was founded in 2014 by T.J. Coles and Laura Baudin. The centre
is a beacon for interdisciplinary researchers and grassroots activists
dedicated to peace and justice. PIPR’s objective, in addition to research, is
to document facts and to make them easily accessible.
T.J. (Tim) Coles is a director of
PIPR and his new book arises from the work he has done there, as well as his
own independent research prior to forming PIPR.
This book is a collection of essays
(some material has previously appeared on Axis of Logic) addressing episodes of
Britain’s hidden and surreptitious wars. Evidence shows that Britain has been
continually at war – somewhere – for over 100 years, and Coles has chosen to focus
on the most recent examples: the Middle East and North Africa, along with Sri
Lanka, Ukraine, Papua, Colombia, Somalia, and Bangladesh.
Unbeknownst to the broad population,
the Shadow State sponsors a ‘new world order’ that allies Britain with
America’s quest for global power – what the Pentagon calls ‘Full Spectrum
Dominance’. Coles documents how British operatives have interfered around the
world with the aim of deposing unwanted regimes. In doing so, they have helped
create extensive terrorist networks across the Middle East, reviving previously-failing
Jihadist groups such as ISIL, which has now transformed into an international
terror franchise.
From
the Introduction:
A few years ago, Britain’s Defence Secretary, Liam
Fox, said: “If you want to keep a secret in the United Kingdom nowadays, the
best place to speak it is in the House of Commons, as it is the least likely
place to be reported.” Taking Fox at his word, this book consults government records
in order to bring Britain’s secret wars to public attention. The evidence
presented here suggests that Britain has a greater role in world affairs than
many realize. Secret wars are waged for the financial benefit of sectional
interests (as internal records reiterate) and result in widespread crimes
against humanity, including ethnic cleansing, torture and assassination.
The
research Coles has done illustrates these points clearly. The book is well
written and easy to understand – where detailed explanations are needed, they
are provided.
I
read this book with avid interest, including those essays I had read
previously. I also found myself getting increasingly angry about two things:
that the reality Coles writes about exists; that most of this information is
unknown to the public – some of which, I think, is the result of poor or absent
investigative journalism in the mainstream. I found myself very impressed with
the work Coles has put into these essays, but don’t just take my word for it. Two
other reviewers have commented and had this to say:
“T.J. Coles’ meticulous work is outstanding. Never
has it been more important to invert the message of the mainstream media and
tell the truth, as he does.”
(John Pilger)
“Full of useful and original research ... I read
with great interest.”
(Noam Chomsky)
This
book is a must read for anyone who wants to truly know what is going on around
us and who objects to the ever-tightening grip of the powerful on our
collective necks.
