Chrystia Freeland, Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs, sits in her office waiting for a phone call from U.S. Vice President Mike Pence to discuss calling Juan Guaido in Venezuela. Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, is sitting across from her, having dropped by on his way to an Albanian fundraising dinner.

The phone rings, Chrystia answers:

C.F.  “Hello, Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs.”
M.P. “Hello, Christy. It’s VP Mike Pence, how’s my girl?”

C.F. “Ah, um, fine Mr. Vice President”.
M.P. "Great. I just talked to Juan Gueedo and I told him that the United States of America supports him as the President of Venezuela and that we would be announcing that to the world tomorrow. I also told him to hold tight, because there was a very special lady that’s going to call him shortly to tell him that Canada also supports him as President of Venezuela. So you should go ahead and do that.

President Trump said in a meeting today that with Canada at our side, Maduro doesn’t stand a chance.

Well, partner, I’ve got to go, we’ll talk later to coordinate our announcements to the world tomorrow that Venezuela has a new president. Bye Christy.”

C.F. “Goodbye Mr. Vice President.”

“Oh GAWD, Justin, I wonder what the Vice President thought of me answering my own phone. My assistant had to leave early. He’s probably thinking, 'boy she can’t have that much clout in the Canadian government if she has to answer her own phone.'

I feel so embarrassed.”

J.T. “Nonsense, Chrystia, you’re the most powerful woman in the Canadian Government and Trump and Pence know it. I would take it a step further and say you’re one of the most powerful woman in the world.”
C.F. “You think so?
J.T. “Yes I do, and so do many other people.

Now I have to go, let’s talk later. I want to know how your talk with Juan Guaido goes.”

Trudeau gets up to leave and as he reaches the door, Chrystia says “Justin”. Trudeau turns and looks at her and she says “Thanks”.

Trudeau smiles, turns and walks away. Chrystia Freeland dials Juan Guaido’s number

J.G. “Juan speaking.”
C.F. “Juan, it’s Chrystia Freeland, calling from Canada.”

J.G. “Oh, hello Chrisee, thank you for calling.”
C.F. “It’s Chrystia.”
J.G. “Oh, okay.”

C.F. ”Juan, I wanted to tell you that Canada supports you as the president of Venezuela and we will be announcing that publicly tomorrow.”
J.G. “That is fantastic, Chrisee. With Canada’s support we can build a new Venezuela. Who do you represent, Chrisee?”

C.F. “What do you mean?”
J.G. “What important minister are you calling on behalf of?”

C.F. “I am that important minister, Juan. I am the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs.”
J.G. “Oh, I am so sorry, I didn’t know. I have much to learn about the Canadian government.”

C.F. “Well, now you know and soon you will be president of Venezuela.”
J.G. “Yes, yes, soon, very soon. My wife is so excited, she is picking out her dress for my inauguration. Um, is Prime Minister Trudeau with you?”

C.F. “No. Why?”
J.G. “Oh, I just wanted to say hello, you know as one leader to another. But no problem. I’m sure I’ll meet him at my inauguration.”

C.F. “I have to go Juan. I’m sure we’ll talk again soon.”
J.G. “Yes. And thank you again, Chrisee. Goodbye, and say hello to PM Trudeau.”
