BBC running out of real news on Venezuela Printer friendly page Print This

Yet another misleading headline from the BBC on the international situation with Venezuela.

"Venezuela crisis: Juan Guaidó backed by Lima Group" - this is just repetitive news and offers nothing new to your readers.

The real news of today regarding the Lima Group is that the Lima Group does not back military intervention in Venezuela.

So why not the headline "Lima Group does not back military intervention in Venezuela". This is the news not Guaidó.

Your plan is to make out that Guaidó has majority regional backing. He does not.

Only 11 of the 14 members of the Lima Group recognize Guaidó and the three who do not are forming a contact group with 16 members of CARICOM. So out of the 35 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, there are 20 (including Venezuela) that recognize Maduro.

These are facts and not the misleading fiction your editors insist on publishing. Hiding these facts is tantamount to censorship, so who on earth do your editors think they are? In addition you do not say that the Lima Group has NO legal clout - that is held by the Organization of American States in this hemisphere.

Why do you not repeat that the Argentine sponsored resolution against Venezuela last week at the OAS and seconded by the US was defeated? Five days later a second resolution sponsored by the US at the UN Security Council was also defeated. Guess you forgot about that one too.

Thus, the US has no legal framework or resolution to take military action against Venezuela or to impose crippling economic sanctions unilaterally that are ILLEGAL in the context of the UN Charter and international law.

Why does the BBC not mention any of this in its texts or, more importantly, in its headlines if its mission is to inform its readers and not be a mouthpiece for the neocon US warmongers such as Bolton and Pompeo?

When are you going to rectify your coverage and heinous behavior?

Remember the study on BBC coverage of Venezuela from 1998 - 2008 by the media department of the University of Western England? The researchers looked at 304 BBC reports published between 1998 and 2008 and found that only 3 of those articles mentioned any of the positive policies introduced by the Chavez administration.

Here is the link so that you can glory in your farrago of twisted lies and facts going back more than 20 years.

You are a disgrace to your profession.
