Forced into becoming a sacrificial martyr, like a lamb to slaughter, his once intelligent mind has turned into a frozen wasteland. If there ever was a touchstone by which the US and Western Society as a whole can be judged, it is their political, judicial, and barbaric treatment of Julian Assange.

What happens when the very thing - the truth - that we expect to be implicit in everything we say and do no longer exists? Where are we if, as Julian Assange says, “The Truth Is All We Have”, if we no longer do have it? What is it that we do have? What replaces the pursuit of truth and truth itself?

Truth is the foundation of a free and democratic civilization. Truth identifies reality for what it is and we, in attempting to understand reality, cannot rewrite it in accordance to our wishes, beliefs, magical thinking, or our personal desires. Those with political power who need to hide the truth must seek to destroy the truth seeker when they are exposed.

Julian Assange is that truth seeker. By releasing top secret US State Department cables, Julian Assange revealed to the world America’s real role in the world.

We are living in a time, primarily because of the West as lead by the US, of universal deceit, an indifference to freedom, where myth versus knowledge, where delusion, deception, distortion, and downright lies are the political narrative of the day. We are living in a time where militarism, the last resort of an unthinking culture, is held for the most part as an unquestioned value by US society.

There is no silver lining in this culture. America is culturally bankrupt. If one finds the present state of the US unintelligible and inexplicable, one need only to see that culturally the US is left without any intellectual expression. It is a place where the power elite’s wealth domestically and globally is not earned; it is acquired by conquest, by force, by political power, or by favour of those who hold political power.

A great many men and women who exist in a culture where reason and the pursuit of truth have been abandoned, rise to power and they then become the rulers. The future is determined by their edicts and their cultural directives, consisting of practicing faith and force over all who now must obey. Culturally, the US is governed by militarism, the use of brute force and Evangelical fundamental Christianity, the belief of the supernatural exercised by preaching dogma. It is becoming an Inverted Totalitarian Christian State, American style hegemony.

There is only one means of survival for those who do not choose to think or pursue the truth, and that is to remain unfocused, unknowing regarding their governments' role and behaviour in the judicial, political, psychological and physical, step-by-step destruction of Julian Assange. They are those who go through life in a state of unfocused stupor merely repeating the words and motions and myths they've learned from others.

They’ve heard the name of Julian Assange and do not realize that he has been their greatest truth teller, who brought to the surface the dark truth of crimes committed in their names. He showed them their government's human rights violations, covert operations and coverups, and revealed their political leaders' profound hatred of freedom.

If you are a citizen of the US, are you even aware that your government's behaviour is responsible for millions of people dying from starvation, from imposed sanctions, and millions more from military brute force?

If you believe the myth that your government is bringing democracy to the countries where these millions of people are dying, then I would ask you where I could find the evidence of that. You don't need to answer, there isn’t any evidence. It’s a myth, and that’s why you believe it and that’s also why you can be so indifferent to the destruction and profound suffering of these people’s lives.

And that is also why you and many others in the world can be so indifferent to the destruction and profound suffering of Julian Assange. Like the criminal cabal that passes for your government, the truth means nothing to you.
