You’ve no doubt noticed that every article we post on Axis of Logic gives the reader the opportunity to comment. Although the pieces we publish are in keeping with our world view, we don’t necessarily agree with every word written (unless, of course, we’ve written them ourselves).
If you want to comment, you can say almost anything you like. We draw the line in two places (er, I guess that’s really two lines then – whatever): we won’t tolerate gross vulgarity – a little bad language is no big deal, but try to keep some sense of decency when leaving comments; and we won’t tolerate obvious racial hatred. Aside from that, have at it, folks.
We won’t censor you unless you violate one of those rules, or unless you try to post advertising or some get-rich-quick scheme. The only things we really ask are that you read the articles, and that you try to stick to the topic when you comment.
Recently, a reader who has been commenting on Axis articles for a long time wrote a comment beneath one of our pieces. It was an article we reprinted about a CNN talking head who got the boot for, allegedly, anti-Semitic remarks about Jon Stewart, of The Daily Show. Well, frankly, Mr Stewart is more than capable of taking care of himself and he really didn’t need the CNN polizei coming to his rescue.
But here’s the problem for us: The people behind this website are strongly opposed to Zionism, but not opposed to Jews as a culture or Judaism as a religion. One is a political distinction, the others are clearly ethnic or racial distinctions. It is an endless source of turmoil that so many people fail to differentiate, although we believe it is fair to say that many don’t differentiate for deliberate reasons. Sometimes we publish articles where the writer has blurred the line somewhat, and sometimes we reject articles that are too overtly anti-Jewish. It’s a very thin line that we try to walk, and no doubt we sometimes get it wrong. But we would rather not attack Jews for the wrongs of the Zionists.
Let’s be clear about something: Not all Jews are Zionists, and not all Zionists are Jews. There is a huge contingency of Zionists to be found among the ultra-right Christians who are just itching for a great big bloody blow-up in the Middle East as a trigger for their Rapture. Judaism and Zionism are by no means the same. Indeed, they are incompatible and irreconcilable: If one is a good Jew, one cannot be a Zionist; if one is a Zionist, one cannot be a good Jew.
So we were perturbed when our reader posted a long commentary that is clearly anti-Jewish, although he closes the comment by denying that he is anti-Semitic. [For the record, ‘anti-Semitic’ is a canard. ‘Semitic’ means: of, relating to, or constituting a subgroup of the Afro-Asiatic language group that includes Arabic, Hebrew, Amharic, and Aramaic. It doesn’t refer only to Jews.] But according to this reader, “virtually every mainstream publication” or other media outlet is a mouthpiece for the Jews. He goes on to say that the Jews have captured the minds of the West by controlling all the sources of information and repeatedly broadcasting messaging sympathetic to themselves.
Well, are there a lot of Jews in positions of power? Yup. Are there lots of them in control of the media? There sure are, but the North American media is the only place you’re likely to find this – well, Israel too, I guess. Our writer’s point, though, is that we in the West have all been “trapped” into “thinking Jewish”.
He refers to a few stories in the media to support his view that there is some vast conspiracy by Jews to enslave the West, via control of the media. One of his examples is film maker Oliver Stone, who not long ago got himself into trouble referring to Jewish control of the media and had to make a hasty retreat. [Although Stone professes to be an adherent of Buddhism, his father was Jewish.]
Stone makes the same mistake made by so many people. Like our reader, he also claims he is not ‘anti-Semitic’; but beneath his message there is some inherent racism. Bear in mind that we Jews are guilty of unmitigated racism ourselves – we define the whole world as Jew or non-Jew. That is, there’s a couple million of us and several billion who are not us, who aren’t just different but are not good enough to be us.
Our reader stated his point as though he was simply reiterating facts. It’s true that many in the mainstream news are Jews – but they hardly ‘control’ it. There may even be a disproportionate number of Jews in the media, the way whites are under-represented in basketball. But even if educational and cultural tendencies lead a higher number of Jews than others into some field of endeavour, where is there any evidence that this constitutes some kind of plot?
In any event, we took the unusual step of deleting his comment. If you want to take shots at someone, fine – we’re up for that. But for anyone who can’t grasp the reason we refuse to be a forum for racism, even when it’s couched in pretty language, may I suggest you head to a children’s bookstore and read The Sneetches by Dr Seuss.
I know it often appears as though there’s a helluva lot of Jews running things – and there are – but that is primarily a credit to their own personal initiative rather than some plot to put them in charge.
Our reader is quite right there is a tendency to defer to the Jewish point of view and Jews certainly take advantage of that. I would argue, though, that in many cases Jews are merely taking what they can get from the rabid Christians who are REALLY in control of everything in the West. After all, there’s only about 13 million Jews in the whole world and close to half of them are in Israel – there’s a whole lot more of everybody else.
So, one more time: We at Axis of Logic are anti-Zionist and we welcome all the discussion on that topic you can muster. We are not anti-Jewish, and unless you’re making some point that is clearly not racist, we’re going to assume it is and delete it. Come to think of it, this pertains to racial, sexual, or social slurs against anyone else too.
Now, if we are really to be concerned about some sneaky plot overtaking our lives, consider this:
Percentage of Americans thought to be left-handed - 13%
Percentage of US presidents who were left-handed - 18%
And to make it worse, 5 of the last 6 presidents are/were left-handed.
Rise up, folks! Do your part to save us from this damn Leftist blight!
