Kazem Jalali, a member of Iran's Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Committee.

Senior Iranian lawmaker Kazem Jalali says the sanctions imposed on Iran lack legal basis and have all been based on the rule of force.

Member of the Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Committee told IRNA on Sunday that anti-Iran resolutions are in clear violation of international rules and regulations.

Jalali made the remarks after the US threatened to slap sanctions on the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) in response to an alleged Iranian plot to kill Saudi Ambassador to Washington Adel al-Jubeir.

On Saturday, CBI Governor Mahmoud Bahmani dismissed the latest US threats against Iran, saying that the politically motivated move would not be supported by many countries.

Bahmani added, "The United Nations would not buy that notion and neither would the world's central banks go along with it."

Jalali said that the anti-Iran sanctions have been based on the false claim that Tehran is pursuing a military nuclear program.

“This false claim has never been proven rather their falsehood has been established and Iran has proven the peaceful nature of its nuclear activities to international organizations,” he added.

Washington and the European Union have already imposed four rounds of sanctions on Iran's nuclear program. Unilateral measures adopted by the US against Iran have deterred Western investment in the country's energy sector.

As a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the International; Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Iran maintains that it has every right to develop and acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

In addition, the IAEA has conducted numerous inspections of Iran's nuclear facilities but has found no evidence indicating that Tehran's civilian nuclear program has diverted towards military objectives.
