TEHRAN - The secretary general of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights says Iran will welcome anyone who wants to serve as only a UN rapporteur but not as a propagandist.

Iran did not allow Ahmed Shaheed, the UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Iran, to enter the country because the reasons provided for his appointment and the way he was tasked with carrying out his mission were illogical and suspicious, Mohammad Javad Larijani said during a televised interview broadcast live on Iranian television on Thursday night.

He said no special rapporteur was appointed to investigate the human rights situation in the countries ruled by dictators who were subservient to the United States and collapsed one by one.

The U.S. itself has the Iranian people’s blood on its hands and has no respect for human rights at all, he added.

Commenting on the recent allegations leveled against Iran by the U.S. and some other Western countries, including claims that Iran had plotted to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to Washington, Larijani said that the scenarios were fabricated to turn public opinion against Iran in the national and international arena.

He stated, “The West has no evidence proving Iran’s involvement in any terrorist act, and it is trying to create an atmosphere of fear among the Iranian people.”

“They are seeking to manipulate the upcoming parliamentary elections in Iran and sway the people, but the elections will deal a severe blow to the West and its plots,” he said.

He also stated that the United States and the Zionist regime are desperate, adding, “The West is extremely concerned about Iran’s success in developments occurring in the region and their extra-regional effects.”

The West is trying to wage a campaign against Iran in confusion but will definitely get nowhere, he noted.
