Global Day of Solidarity with Venezuela!

From 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, the International Day of Solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela, Congressman Francisco Torrealba will speak at 1199 SEIU Auditorium, 310 West 43rd Street, NYC. The congressman will discuss the process of social change in Venezuela and the presidential elections on October 7 of this year.

Since 1998, when Hugo Chávez was first elected president of Venezuela, the government has used oil profits to promote equality and social justice, drastically reducing poverty and improving the lives of the majority by providing free education, healthcare, and other essential services. This process for sovereignty and social inclusion is called the Bolivarian Revolution. Congressman Torrealba, an elected official of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, will provide a firsthand account of the changes and the current political climate in Venezuela.

The event is co-sponsored by the Alberto Llovera Bolivarian Circle of New York, Alliance for Global Justice- Venezuela Solidarity Network, ANSWER, FMLN-NYC, CISPES, Haiti Liberté, Humanist Party, Left Labor Project, Movimiento por la Paz en Colombia, NACLA, ProLibertad Freedom Campaign, and SEIU 1199.

Congressman Torrealba will be available for interviews on July 24 and 25, 2012. About Francisco Torrealba:Francisco Torrealba is an elected member of Venezuela’s National Assembly and the President of the country’s Federation of Railway Workers.  He has over four decades of experience with labor unions, having served in leadership positions in the International Transportation Workers Federation and the Labor Union of the Caracas Metro System.
