On this episode of Breaking the Set, Abby Martin talks to columnist and
Middle East affairs analyst Hafed al Ghwell about post-revolution Libya,
the mounting violence that experts say could sink the country into
chaos, and the underlying struggles that prevent progress. Abby then
goes over the timeline of events that resulted in Julian Assange
spending one year holed-up inside the Ecuadorean Embassy in London, and
the international pressures that transformed the little-known
whistleblower into Public Enemy Number One. Abby then talks to political
commentator Sam Sacks about the Obama administration’s decision to arm
the Syrian rebels, and looks at the various factions that collectively
make up ‘the rebels.’ BTS wraps up the show by highlighting the late
Michael Hastings as the day’s hero, citing his work as an honest
journalist and courageous storyteller who pulled no punches.
