The Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will attend a mass national rally in Paris that is expected to draw over one million people in tribute to the 17 victims of the recent attacks in the country, a Palestinian diplomatic source said Saturday.
The French government announced early today that President Francois Hollande will be joined at Sunday's rally by a number of world leaders, including British Prime Minister David Cameron, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The Defense Ministry said it has deployed 1,350 soldiers in the metropolitan area of Paris for the event.
Cherif and Said Kouachi, the two brothers accused of killing 12 people at the Paris office of the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo, were killed on Friday after a stand-off in northeast of Paris. On the same day, police ended a second hostage situation at a Jewish supermarket killing one armed man, Amedy Coulibaly, who was also a suspect in the fatal shooting of a policewoman in southern Paris.
French authorities also reported that four hostages were killed in the incident, with a possible fourth suspect having fled the scene of the market amid the chaos following the police raid.
Both al-Qaida in Yemen and the Islamic State group have claimed responsibility for the attacks, although questions remain about the ordeal.
The tragic events have led to a series of rallies France. On Saturday, authorities reported that more than 200,000 people poured into the streets in several cities across the country.
