For David Bowie
If you say run, I’ll run with you
If you say, hide we’ll hide
crisp starry winter cold
when moonlight becomes lovely and serious
many a summer love found
and lost under a moonlit night
multi-faced and faceted
pearl-like
beautifully creviced
like a grandmother’s face
a magician’s assistant
disappearing and reappearing
old man and pubescent tune
maybe even see a rune
on my childhood bedside wall
the cow jumped over the moon
it’s cliché
but you have to
sometimes
howl at the moon
lest it all
get too serious
Bowie a Bugs Bunny of personas
keep dancin’ in the moonlight
gender-bender music-sender befriender
may the music of the spheres
be heard within your
timeless ears
Note: title and epigraph from his song “Let’s Dance”
