Empire con-woman
trying to jerk our emotions,
professing moonlight love
but leaving when the sun shines

Empire con-man
rattling sabres,
trying to bring us to the edge
when the center is our home

Empire con
the oldest game in town,
putting old tricks in new dogs,
old wine in new skins,
same-o same-o
from the mouths of babes

Freudian slips from pressed secretaries
geo-political vaudeville but the
banana schtick’s not funny

Empire con-woman kissing
Empire con-man
trying to make you jealous

Empire con-man showing off
penis-envy missiles
trying to make you scared

Humpty-Dumpty does border wall,
Wile E. Coyote CEOs corporation,
The Joker plays newscaster casting
in Arlington National Ceremony headstones

Empire con-woman twisted
my knickers
so i had to untangle
Empire con-man fisted
the air
so i breathed deep and flashed
the peace-sign
