At the café
I refuse a sleeve for my coffee cup
so as to save a Tree.

At the bank
I’m afraid to touch
the antimicrobial pen.

On the highway I honk
at the driver texting
so as to save the day.

Post-Harvey-and-Irma
gas prices back to ‘normal’
but does anybody care
that minorities in Houston zip-code 77078
have no floors, no things, no help
from the government
and so-called emergency management systems*
but maybe Puerto Rico will get inundated
with renewable energy
and become a global green phoenix story.

But too many people are waiting Online to be “liked”
OMG how ironic that there are no straight lines in Nature
(though I saw this stick once)
yet everybody spends all their time Online
                        (get it?!)
so
           does
     anyone
                       remember
           what
a
                       circle,
              a
                         spiral
    is?

Meanwhile, back at the raunch,
the CorporateMedia feeds on make or break individuals
so while Harvey the pig (no offense to pigs) gets headlines
and women become unafraid to speak out,
the history of Hollywood and military and campus rapes is too generic
------
we interrupt this poem to quote USA Today giving headline to an individual:
“The Army has sacked a two-star general who sent flirty messages
to the wife of an enlisted soldier at his post in Italy, including one
in which he referred to the woman as a ‘HOTTIE’”
------
and when will the Vatican rescind
their ban on masturbation so we can all,
like Rodney King wondered, get along
without using each other’s bodies
for ego-gratification.

Hey, if you liked this poem
maybe you can catch me
at my culturally stimulating avant-don’t-let-your-garde-down
performance-art-show at the crowded fire station
where I yell “Theater of the Absurd!!”
and then my manager reprimands me (in freakin’ public!)
for ignoring an email from the Center for Biological Diversity:
“Dozens of juvenile Pacific walruses
were found dead just weeks ago
off the coast of Point Lay, Alaska.
Pacific walruses rely on sea ice for
giving birth, nursing and resting —
but the habitat they need to survive is melting away.
Now the Trump administration has denied these
extraordinary animals Endangered Species Act protection,
moving them perilously close to extinction.
We won't let Trump get his way.
That's why we're taking his administration to court
to overturn this cruel decision.”*
